Scout provides a people-centric driving experience. When a drive involves another person directly, Scout is the go-to platform of choice. Unlike Google and Apple Maps which is about places, Scout is all about the people.

The problem
The initial direction was to allow formal events/get-togethers and our data and research showed the demand for that just didn't exist. Our data suggested a large % of our users were driving to home/work frequently and as such we began focusing on solving problems for them.

Also, the app had a dated look along with many different styles in icons, color schemes and fonts that had been combined over the course of a few months from different designers. The visual style was inconsistent and the design was not appealing to the general audience.

Based on feedback through user interviews and app reviews we ranked our users top use cases which were: Shortcuts, Pick Me Up, Meet Me Here, Notifications (Where Are You / Arrived Safely / Leaving Now), Pick Someone Up, and Meet at neutral location.

We enabled geofencing alerts that could be configured to send updates to loved ones. The repeat rate for the Shortcuts was 39.3%.

Once we saw the positive feedback on the newly implemented "Shortcuts" feature, we added a Connect tab that would allow users to meet friends at their location, share ETA's and even voice chat while driving to the destination.
